Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an Elementary school counselor in Utah. We have a diverse group of students and we are a Title I school. I work with students as needed individually, in groups and also in the classroom setting. I work with all students that attend our school.
My Project
I will be creating coping toolboxes for my students. I am the school counselor and students come to me with a variety of emotions, struggles and trauma. I am going to put together kits that can help with a variety of feelings and emotions. Each toolkit will be designed to offer a variety of ways to de stress and hopefully help students articulate their feelings.
I will be using one of the toolbox kits to teach kids grounding techniques, mindfulness and body movement.
I will be using another to help students that are grieving by reading them a book about creating memory boxes along with some materials to do so. There will also be toolboxes for anxiety, depression, anger in addition to one for each of the five senses.
I hope these kits will help students be able to work through emotions so I can help give them additional resources and tools to help.
