Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach high school students child development (conception through age 5) and early childhood education (educating children 3-8 years old). All students get the chance to either observe preschool children or work as an intern in the preschool. My students have expressed interest in working with children in the future in many different careers.
My students are engaged and ask thoughtful questions, together we create an environment of thoughtfulness, caring and learning.
This class gives students real world experience and valuable information no matter their future career choice.
My Project
My students work on many projects and presentations throughout the year, like wearing the Empathy Belly, taking care of egg babies, creating a nursery diorama, practicing with Real Care Babies and creating developmental toys for preschool children. The students are also gaining practical knowledge as to how children grow and develop, along with communication and compromise skills. All my students will benefit from the opportunity to work in groups at level tables with chairs as opposed to the separate slanted desks we currently have. Another advantage to tables and chairs is that we are creating a collaborative and supportive atmosphere in the classroom.
