My Students

Cooperative learning is an essential part of our classroom environment. Most of our assignments are completed in small group settings. Currently, my students have individual desks, but would greatly benefit from sitting in groups.

My school is in a high poverty community.

So many of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, our school provides all of our students with free lunch. Our district can not fund expensive purchases for the teachers, so we rely on grants to fund most of our projects.

I have a small class with only 16 students. I have 10 boys and 6 girls. I have special needs students as well as gifted and talented students.

My Project

I hope to receive four trapezoid tables so that my students can form a small group. I can fit 6 students at the tables when they are pushed together. Students will have a community supply basket in the center of the table so that all students have access to items such as pencils, erasers, etc.

I currently use stability balls as seats and the grouping would be an addition to the already flexible seating in my room.

Over time, I wish for all of my students to be able to sit at tables instead of individual desks.

If I find that the grouping tables are a success, I plan on adding more tables to my room.
