Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First graders benefit tremendously from working in cooperative groups and small group settings. Help me provide them with tools to "show what they know" and participate in activities that showcase their contribution in a safe and non-threatening way. The dry-erase boards will provide opportunities to work on math problem-solving and other literacy skills, such as handwriting, spelling, phonemic awareness, and sentence structure. The stools will allow students to join me at the small group table for guided reading/math and to seek additional help/intervention throughout the day. The cart will give us a convenient way to store materials and access them quickly and independently.

Allowing students to write their thoughts down while working in small and large group settings takes away some of the anxiety that comes with raising their hands and waiting to be called on when answering questions or exploring new skills.

I will be able to differentiate my instruction with the materials provided in this project. I can quickly assess learning informally and monitor and adjust learning in the moment when ALL kids are able to share their thinking.
