This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
How can we close the achievement gap when students do not have the necessary materials to succeed?
My students are living in one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S.
Most of my students take on adult roles at home and have a difficult time transitioning into a student role within the classroom setting. They are very hardworking and dedicated students; that give 100 percent when shown the love and support they need. Despite the hardships these young people face, every day they show up each day with smiles on their faces, eager to learn.
My Project
The students in my school do not have a gym attached to our school. When it rains or is too cold, my students have indoor recess in the classroom. My students need to have productive ways to play in our classroom. Board games and card games are a great way for my students to learn how to better work cooperatively and appropriately. The addition of board games and card games to our classroom would give my students the opportunity to work with their classmates in a positive way, while learning to: take turns, follow directions, communicate effectively, and celebrate wins and losses.
