This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have the pleasure of teaching 24 super smart first graders. Unfortunately, my students come from a high-poverty, low socioeconomic community. Ninety-nine percent of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Despite these circumstances, my children are full of spirit and have positive attitudes about learning. They absolutely love coming to school.
These first graders come in each morning with hugs and big smiles on their faces.
They are eager to learn and love for me to teach them new things. I want to make their learning experiences as meaningful and fun as possible.
My Project
I am asking for a few jackets for my first graders. Most of my students come from low income families, so they don't have warm jackets to wear on cool days. If they do wear a jacket, it is usually old and either too small or too big. Even though I have some extra jackets in my classroom, I would love to be able to give new jackets to the students that really need them.
Having a new, clean jacket for cool fall and winter days, will make my first graders feel special.
