My students are excited about learning. They come to school with smiles on their faces, looking forward to learning something new. Our class is full of a variety of personalities and backgrounds, coming from different parts of the community. Here, boys and girls are full of energy, and watching the spark as they discover something new is what inspires me to be the best teacher I can be.
My students look forward to their independent reading time each day, and can't wait to tell me and their classmates about what Jack and Annie did in the latest Magic Tree House or about the different things that they read that tigers do to mark their territories.
Being able to encourage students' to continue to work hard and watching their love of reading grow from the time they enter my classroom and the time they leave is one of my favorite parts of being a teacher!
My Project
Second-grade students will be able to focus on learning if they are able to sit in comfortable seating arrangements around the classroom. In my second year as a second-grade teacher, I have seen the benefits of flexible seating in my colleagues' classrooms, and I wish to provide the same benefits to my own students - all I need is your help getting the materials from my Amazon shopping cart into my classroom.
Students are thrilled when they get to sit on one of the two bean bags chairs in my classroom during the independent reading time... imagine the excitement they would feel to be able to choose a cool and comfy seating arrangement that they would get to use all day, every day each week!
Many students will find it easier to focus on learning if they are able to make a choice about where and how they sit in the classroom. Some of them will figure out that a specific seating arrangement such as the green rocker or the blue lap desk is where they do their best work, and that is the spot they will choose week after week. With flexible seating in place, students will be able to focus their energy on learning rather than using so much energy trying to sit still in their desk chairs.
