This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am seeking funding for air conditioners for two extremely hot classrooms. I am a first year Special Education teacher for 7th and 8th grade students in an East Harlem landmark building school on the fifth floor. The building's age adds beauty and charm to the classroom. Atrium windows allow for a full day of direct sunlight and natural light makes the room bright. The drawback of the old architecture is the poor air circulation. The room is filled with warm air and has only one window. I have purchased one small fan, although it does a poor job at best and is worthless on a humid day. School is drawing to an end and the students are becoming increasingly feisty, irritable and distracted. We still have two major state exams to prepare for and every moment of teaching time is crucial. Trying to deliver information to students who are half falling asleep, sweating and taking frequent water breaks creates challenges above the normal ones. Thank you in advance for your sensitivity to the comfort of students, which is needed in order to facilitate their learning.
