Cooking with Fairy Tales

My students need cooking supplies, cook books, and fairy tales to help with reading, science, multi-culturalism, and math.

My Students

Fairy tales are full of fantasy and food. My students will learn about fairy tales as they prepare food from different cultures. This will improve their reading, science, math, and knowledge of American culture.

The students in my class are in the 2nd grade.

They are in a very limited economic area. The students attend a Title 1 school in a urban area in Nevada. Most of the students are foreign born and come from parents with limited education. The students do not have much experience cooking.

My Project

Using Fairy Tales to teach my students would help them understand American culture and idioms. Also, it is a fun way to introduce vocabulary and see patterns in stories. But to make sure the fairy tales become a part of the students knowledge we are going to add cooking. This will tie the story to every student. They can become part of the story by making a food product. The food product will tie in reading a recipe, using measurement, the science of cooking, and understanding vocabulary.

The impact of this project is to cross cultures and tie in as many subjects as possible to help these 8 year old students to learn that each subject is not a single subject but tied together.
