My Students
Every child is gifted, they just unwrap their packages at different times. “If you've met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism,” Dr. Stephen Shore.
This is true of my students.
My six students are all on the autism spectrum and have many different needs concerning communication, behavior, and sensory.
My goal is to teach my students how to communicate to the best of their ability and to socialize with their peers while focusing on academics and daily living skills. I push them to be as independent as they can be in all aspects of their lives.
My Project
This project combines social skills, health education, speech and language activities, math skills, daily living skills, and home economics. This refrigerator will be used in conjunction with materials my students received from the first part of this project, Cooking Up Social Skills, which included cooking utensils, an oven, and griddle. We will be cooking for members of our school staff and need the refrigerator to store food items once they are purchased from the store. The students will create menus, go shopping, cook, deliver food, and collect money for breakfast food ordered by the staff in our school.
By donating to this project you will be giving my students the opportunity to build on their social skills as well as their communication and money skills.
Making my students as independent as possible is the goal of my classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
