It is rewarding to give them such a special day, where they can play freely and joyfully. They look forward to it every June, and now thanks to you, we have better water toys that we can use again next year!\r\n\r\nHearing some of our verbal students say \"this is the best day of my life!\" makes it all worth while. At our low-income elementary school serving students with special needs, we strive to create an environment where positive behaviors are recognized, reinforced, and celebrated—and thanks to you, we're doing just that.\r\n\r\nWith your help, we launched a student-run PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school store, and we're already seeing a remarkable difference. Students now earn points throughout the week for positive actions, which they can trade for motivating prizes at the end of each week. The excitement around the store has been incredible! Our students look forward to \"store day\" with so much anticipation, and we've seen a noticeable increase in positive behaviors and a decrease in negative ones across the school.\r\n\r\nThe impact goes far beyond rewards. For the students helping to run the store, the experience has been transformative. With the donation of personalized aprons, our student workers felt an immediate sense of pride and professionalism. This simple addition sparked a boost in confidence and independence as they took on real responsibilities in managing the store.\r\n\r\nOur students are gaining more than just behavioral rewards—they're developing essential life skills. They're practicing communication and social interaction, learning to take turns, express themselves clearly, and collaborate with both peers and staff. They're also building basic financial literacy by managing the cash register, counting points, and making exchanges—skills that will serve them well throughout their lives.\r\n\r\nThe smiles we see as students select their prizes—made possible by your generosity—are priceless. You've helped create a space where learning is joyful, growth is celebrated, and every student has the chance to shine.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students and for making this impactful project a reality.","fullyFundedDate":1739629499942,"projectUrl":"project/empowering-special-needs-students-throug/9112158/","projectTitle":"Empowering Special Needs Students Through Our PBIS School Store","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hershcopf","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5902546"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_108666","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":null,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":89,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":24,"percentWhite":18,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":49,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"US Census Data for the surrounding geographic area","gradesServed":"Not specified","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"Census ZCTA","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":28.3,"schoolId":108666,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about P138M @ P380M on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"P138M @ P380M","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/district-75-city-wide-programs/p138m-p380m/108666"}
