This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Sadly you won't find anyone in our Kindergarten kitchen center because we don't have one. This imaginative area offers students a place to role play family living and learn socialization skills which are very important. My kids lack these positive experiences, which is why I am asking for help.
I teach Kindergarten at a rural South Carolina school.
Over 90% of my students live under the poverty level and receive free lunch. Regardless of our circumstances my students are excited and ready to learn. The children in my class enter Kindergarten not performing where they should be and it is my job to support them where they are as well as challenge them to the next level.
My Project
Students develop the art of sharing while interacting in the kitchen center. They pretend to be families, community helpers, and even pets. Pretending shows how creative young students can be and the benefits pour over into all subject areas. This center will be engaging to both males and females. It will be where children learn how to set the table, take care of a baby, make a menu, count money, use a telephone, and the possibilities are endless. Needless to say I will be able to address many South Carolina standards by incorporating this kitchen center into my classroom.
I realize times are difficult for everyone and I appreciate your willingness to consider this project.
Early childhood development needs this type of play to foster critical thinking skills. Whatever amount you are able to donate will help put us closer to making this dream a reality. Thanks again for your consideration.
