My students are hard working, creative and love to do hands on projects. I teach a culinary arts class, unlike most schools ours does not accept class fees for these types of classes. I would like to prepare my students with the life skills needed to be successful after high school. Doing this will require updated kitchen equipment , our kitchen has not been updated to be able to meet the demands of todays culinary workforce. Students at the school come from multipliable backgrounds , academic standings and ability levels.
This class is important to my students because it will help them be able to make healthier choices with recipes that they can make themselves.
. Students are passionate about the culinary industry and would like to pursue a career in that field. Getting new kitchen equipment will help them become more confident and will build social skills. Our classes are growing every year and we do not have the kitchen equipment to keep up with the demands of the growing program. My students are having less home cooked sit down meals and more fast food. I would like to change that by teaching them skills that they can use.
These martials will help make a difference in my students learning by giving them the martials for hands on projects. Using updated kitchen equipment will give my students more opportunities to do things like the sponsor luncheon. We cooked steak, baked potatoes, salad with a homemade dressing and a dessert for this event. Projects like this will be greatly impacted by being able to have the proper tools for the job. Cooking can also help my students learn to maintain focus and stay on task.
These tools will help the students build social skills, team building and culinary skills that they can use after high school.
Being able to have the correct equipment for the job will help my students build confidence and knowledge in the opportunities that are presented before them to them. The current kitchen situation is poor. We do not have many of the basic tools that every kitchen should have. This project will allow my students to have the basic needs that all culinary kitchens should have in order to make this class successful.
