This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher in an urban school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges, I am striving to give my students meaningful learning experiences and teach them skills they can use for the rest of their lives.
My students are creative, energetic and enthusiastic 8th graders who love hands-on learning activities in the classroom!
They would love to have the opportunity to cook in our family and consumer science class!
My Project
Family and Consumer Science class teaches students life skills they can take with them and use for the rest of their lives. Our class includes many hands-on learning experiences and projects, centered around topics that include, food/nutrition, cooking, sewing and human development.
With cookware, blenders, griddles and kitchen utensils, my students will be able to learn to cook many different types of nutritious meals and snacks!
While learning to cook, they will also be practicing reading recipes. Measuring cups and spoons will help my students learn to measure the correct amounts of ingredients for their recipes. While measuring ingredients, they will also practice using fractions in hands-on activities.
Being able to cook in our class will greatly enhance my students' learning experiences! Learning to cook is an important skill that my students will be able to use now and throughout the rest of their lives!
My students are so eager to learn and want to learn to cook more than anything else in class! Perhaps, cooking may even become a career for some of my students!
