My Students

My students are the strongest people I have ever met, but they need guidance on everyday social emotional skills. They have overcome adversity that most adults have never faced, and they come to school everyday facing a multitude of different challenges. My students are loving, caring, passionate, and wonderful people, but most of them struggle with anger, self doubt, anxiety, and self-control. They desperately want to learn how to help themselves so that they can learn, be a good friend, and become the best version of themselves.

My Project

Through the use of books, my students will be able to learn self control, emotional regulation, and basic social emotion skills. Throughout our day, I have begun to weave in mindfulness and social emotional lessons to help teach my students about respect, empathy, self regulation, as well as self coping skills. With these skills, students are more able to access instruction, as well as be functioning members of society. Through the use of yoga, meditation, and breathing techniques, I have seen an improvement in my students overall behavior, but they still need to be explicitly taught about appropriate social emotional skills. Through the use of these books, I can help my students sharpen their social emotional skills in order for them to be the best versions of themselves.
