Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so lucky to be the teacher of 23 bright, kind, social, and energetic kindergarteners. We built such a strong classroom community this year and were growing both academically and social-emotionally. Switching to distance learning was a major change and adjustment for all of my students as they don't get to see their friends or their teacher in the same way, there are no hugs or high fives or play time with one another.

I am humbled to see my kindergarteners still so excited to learn on the computer and take responsibility for their own learning.

My students received Chromebooks from the school, which has been a blessing as we are able to have class virtually through Zoom. My students are adjusting to learning from their homes now. Some where it is difficult to find a quiet space, a place to work, or have the materials to do the activities.

Each day we meet on Zoom to do ELA, Math, and small groups every day. On Fridays, we engage in some type of Fun Friday activity where we can all do something fun with one another and continue to build and maintain our relationships.

My Project

My students have taken it upon themselves to continue their learning during quarantine. They show up to Zoom class every day, excited to learn. However, many of my students do not have a paper, pencils, or colors, to make the most of their learning and enjoy writing. By having these materials and construction paper, we will also be able to engage in art activities where my students will develop fine motor-skills, their imagination and creativity.

We all want our students to be able to continue to learn, create, and stay active during this quarantine.

My students are at a critical time, as 5 and 6 year olds, to be developing their reading skills and abilities. My students need books in their homes to support them in reading and continue to foster a love for reading. Lastly, as we are all staying at home it can be difficult to stay healthy and active. By providing my students with balls, jump ropes, and swing balls we can support them to stay healthy and active.
