Help me give my students healthy snacks such as nuts, trail mix, baked chips, and granola bars to encourage focus and discourage hunger in my classroom and school.
Students at my school face challenges daily, at school and outside of school, that require positive reinforcement to battle against those challenges and promote healthy future citizenship. We are a PBIS school, and positive reinforcement allows students to make decisions in the right direction.
Students at our school are surrounded by caring faculty that continues to work together for their benefit.
The social skills of the students require an alternative approach for rewards and incentives to encourage healthy choices. Every bit helps when the world seems harsh.
My Project
Our school has greatly been impacted by the benevolence of donors in the past. Our students endure many hardships outside of school and many come to school hungry. Since we have been receiving snacks to feed our youngins there has been a reduction in discipline issues and/or referrals, there have been better grades and test scores, and students feel safer to express themselves (and ask for help) because they aren't hungry. On occasion, a student comes to me and asks me for some snacks to get them through the weekend- and they mean it. Our students also earn school money and use it to purchase food; in other words, they have almost eaten $1500 worth of good deeds since our last donation! Our donation from the beginning of the school year will be depleted in a couple of weeks. I wish there was some way to express our gratitude to our donors that understood the need that needed to be met and helped to change that need. Every day my students realize someone they don't even know reached out to help them. Considering how often students enter our school - you have no idea the impact! It is as tremendous as your donation!
