Construction and Building Materials for Hands-On Learning
My students need opportunities to construct and build with a variety of materials such as traffic signs, soft blocks, and a ramps and balls exploration set in the block area.
I have the privilege of teaching children, 2 1/2 to 6 years old, with special needs. They all have different abilities, strengths, talents and so much love to give. They bring joy to those around them every day! They learn best through hands-on play. I serve students with speech and language delays, autism spectrum disorder, physical delays, emotional delays, and cognitive delays. Providing materials that are meaningful across a variety of ages and abilities is critical for their growth and development.
My Project
Cooperation, problem-solving, imagination, fine, and gross motor skills are just a few things that preschoolers can learn through play. They grow, learn, and problem solve when given opportunities to explore materials. I want to create a block area in my classroom that gives my students the opportunity to learn about the community around them, by providing blocks, community buildings, and transportation signs for them to use. I also want to provide ramps, vehicles, and a variety of blocks to provide opportunities to learn about motion, force and, speed. Socially, students can learn to share, cooperate, and work together. By providing a variety of materials, students of all abilities can learn and grow.
