This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These items will help my students in AP Statistics, Probability and Statistics, and Sports Statistics construct viable statistical arguments through the use of visualizations. These items will make a difference in their learning because I will be able to allow every student to create their own visual in a small group setting.

With these items, my students will be able to construct visualizations including dot plots of sampling distributions, and run thousands of simulations of events quickly using the technology of online applets.

Currently, we create these visuals together as a class on the whiteboard which is less engaging for the students. With these materials, I plan to split my class into smaller stations and have each one create a sampling distribution in a different way. For example, one group can use a random number generator in the calculator along with the chart paper and the dot stickers. Another group can use the iPad to screencast and share to the board the sampling distribution from the online applet. Another group can use Sharpies and random processes to construct the sampling distribution by hand. It is my hope, that by giving students more ownership of the creative process they will not only be more engaged but gain a deeper understanding of statistical argumentation.
