My Students
My students are an energetic and curious bunch of kiddos! They come to school every day with smiles on their faces, eager to learn, despite some of the tough situations they come from. They are thrilled to learn and grow, every day, no matter what challenges they face in their home lives!
Our classroom is a community where the students can feel excited, included, safe, and successful!
Access to hands-on learning materials and books is necessary for their success and engagement in their learning. They are so appreciative of the opportunities that they have to grow as a community of learners together in our classroom!
My Project
Each year my students make leaps and bounds in their journey of becoming readers. They will learn to embrace both fiction and nonfiction texts and will demonstrate a love of reading on daily basis.
An important next step in their reading journey is to experience reading about current events.
This will help them understand that reading serves a purpose beyond entertainment or learning academic information.
As my students become citizens of not only our school community but their home and neighborhood communities, I want them to understand that news sources help them become informed about the world around them. Publications such as Scholastic News will give them the introductory experience with reading to understand the world around them and see beyond their own small community.
