My Students

Picture 31 4th graders, blindfolded, in a grove of trees, just listening.... This is what my class will be doing in connection with their reading of Michael Dorris's Sees Behind Trees. This sweet book subtly illustrates Native people's connection to nature, and we'll make those connections, too.

I'll be meeting my 4th grade class on Monday!

The third grade teachers tell me I'm in for a great year with a really special group of kids. I'm so lucky to be teaching at C.E. in Oakland, where teachers are really passionate about teachers, the administration is super supportive, and expectations for all kids are high.

My Project

A big part of my curriculum will be about California and the splendor of outdoors. The year will hopefully culminate with a class trip to Yosemite Valley. I want the kids to have the fullest experience possible. This project, designed to awaken their sense of perception, is a part of that process. As a bonus, they'll also learn how our differences help to shape us, and that a disability can sometimes serve as an unexpected opportunity.
