This is a game-changer!\r\n\r\nThe new items—including the cushions that allow students to twist and move, the bouncy board that provides a quick, quiet energy release, and the comforting weighted stuffy—will serve as quick, calming 'breaks' within the classroom. This simple access to tools allows our students to manage their sensory needs before they reach a point of frustration or escalation, meaning fewer disruptions and more time focused on learning in the classroom with their peers.\r\n\r\nThe new storage shelf will also play a critical role, helping us keep all supplies accessible and organized, which in itself is a key support for students who thrive in a structured environment.\r\n\r\nYour generosity directly translates into a more inclusive, calm, and effective learning space for everyone. Thank you for believing in our students and investing in their well-being and education.","fullyFundedDate":1755690987937,"projectUrl":"project/broadening-horizons-with-a-flexible-lear/9523420/","projectTitle":"Broadening Horizons with a Flexible Learning Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Liou","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6906114"},{"teacherId":9123162,"projectId":7570348,"letterContent":"The addition of flexible seating in my second-grade classroom has had a profound impact on student engagement and the overall learning environment. These seating options have proven especially beneficial during literacy center independent work, social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, and small-group instruction.\r\n\r\nFlexible seating allows students to make intentional choices about where and how they learn best. For example, a student who needs a quieter space can move away from a chatty partner to read independently. During math or literacy collaboration, small groups can gather comfortably on the rug to discuss strategies or share ideas. Students with vision or focus challenges can use low desks near the screen during whole-group instruction, ensuring equitable access to visual materials. During SEL circle time, students are able to participate in a more relaxed, supportive, and inclusive way.\r\n\r\nBeyond improving focus and participation, flexible seating has also enhanced the sense of warmth and belonging in our classroom community. Students take great pride in caring for the space, and we have used these seating options daily to support meaningful, active learning.","fullyFundedDate":1692767991887,"projectUrl":"project/flexible-seating-supports-the-universal/7570348/","projectTitle":"Flexible Seating Supports the Universal Design for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Clara","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9123162_orig.jpg?crop=4284,4284,x723,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762456474505","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9123162"},{"teacherId":3916774,"projectId":9721451,"letterContent":"When our classroom reached 80 degrees in September, despite having all the shades down, and three fans and a portable air conditioner running, it was clear that I needed to find a solution to keep our second graders safe and comfortable. It was so hard for them to learn, collaborate and focus while feeling so hot and uncomfortable. The answer was another air conditioner! Unfortunately, portable air conditioners are incredibly expensive, and I did not have the classroom budget to buy one. Luckily. you all came to our rescue and funded our project in record time. We are incredibly grateful!\r\n\r\nWhen we talked about the second air conditioner as a class, and how we were probably the only class with two, one student said, \"now we are the coolest class in school!\" I agree-- now our students can focus on their academic and social-emotional needs and goals instead of how hot it is. They also ARE pretty extraordinary (or cool) children!\r\n\r\nI am running both air conditioners and it is making a HUGE difference!
