Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At the end of the school year, I want my students to have a grasp of computer programming.

My middle schoolers are ready to take on whatever challenge I give them.

Next year, I hope to challenge them with learning the basics of computer programming! Most of my students do not have access to the same resources as children in more affluent areas, so I would like to bring computer programming to them. To start, the children need to learn some concepts, and board games are a great way to engage them in the concepts of computer programming.

My Project

My students need board games to help them learn computer programming Hands-on play is key to understanding concepts in coding. Robot Turtles sneakily teaches programming fundamentals to kids. Code Monkey Island board game teaches kids how to use and master the fundamentals of computer science, and is played in thousands of homes, schools, libraries, and after school camps around the world.

Dr. Ed Lazowska, Bill & Melinda Gates Chair in Computer Science & Engineering, University of Washington, said, "In the 21st century, computational thinking is essential for everyone.

“Computational thinking” is problem analysis and decomposition, algorithmic thinking and expression, functions and abstraction, fault isolation and debugging. The earlier you can master these, the better!" That’s why Robot Turtles and Code Monkey Island would be so powerful for my students.
