Computer Needed for New Student-Run Newspaper!

My students need a laptop computer to create the monthly school newspaper that they created from scratch last school year! I supplied my own personal laptop during last year, but it would be wonderful if the class could have their own computer to compose stories, work on digital photos and create the layout for their school newspaper.

My students bravely and enthusiastically started from scratch a new school newspaper for their student body! I teach English and journalism in grades 10-12 in a very rural high need community that has little access to technology.

My students came to me last year concerned that their school of 1600 students did not have a school newspaper. They were anxious to begin a journalism program, but with no funding or support from the administration, they knew they had an up hill battle ahead of them. After many bake sales and my own personal laptop and camera, they successfully created eight issues of the "Stagline" and are very excited for the upcoming year. Budget cuts in our school district have only made the situation more difficult, and the kids have no computer to work on during production. A laptop is needed for the classroom.

In order to continue the success of the journalism program, it is crucial that the students have some technology to help them continue the creation of the newspaper. Many of them have expressed desire to explore careers in journalism after college, and I would love for them to have a laptop to call their own in the classroom so that they can make their dreams come true! We are asking for a HP Pavilion Widescreen Notebook Computer for the students to compose stories, complete layouts, and submit issues of the paper. The HP Pavilion Widescreen Notebook Computer would be the most integral part of the program, and it would be utilized everyday in the construction of the newspaper.

Your donation or contribution to a laptop computer for my journalism students would make it possible for them to understand that people do support them and that people do want them to be successful. They need to know that humanity's concern for student success goes beyond test scores! The HP model we are requesting is reasonably priced and very dependable, based on the research the students have conducted. We feel it would be such an asset to our program.
