Help me give my students composting bins and materials as we push to become a more eco-friendly and health minded sustainable school.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all extraordinary kids! Most of these students reside in a poor, urban area that is grossly underfunded, and, in some areas, lacking even the most basic of needs. Although many of them come from tough neighborhoods and lifestyles, they are strong, smart, and full of life. These are the scientists of tomorrow.
Each of these individuals has a mind for science and a contribution to make to the scientific world.
Their ingenuity is exceptional, and their thirst for learning is unquenchable. I learn more from them than they do from me! These kids are the kinds of kids that inspire innovation. They are the example that leaders should be following and the hope that will fuel the future.
My Project
This year, my Environmental Science and Chemistry students have worked diligently to identify ways to make a more sustainable environment within our high school. Using a program called Eco-School, these kids have performed rigorous assessments in our hybrid/virtual model of ways the school building can improve its sustainability and ecological footprint.
One of the pillars of a sustainable school is sustainable waste management - the impact on food consumption, on the health and well-being of our student's bodies and minds, and our overall ecological footprint is vastly improved when we are taught sustainable waste practices.
To combat this issue, my Eco-School kids will collect compostable food wastes from the entire school to create soil that will be used in our school's outdoor garden where we will transplant our hydroponic-grown produce.
The composter I am requesting will give students a safe and reliable place to compost food wastes from our school. This bin will be used year after year to support our sustainable food garden. It will support the mental and emotional health of students as they are tasked with a real project-based learning goal that they can implement and administer entirely on their own.
The joys of seeing a real-world project that develops real-world skills in urban agriculture cannot be understated. Students have developed leadership and public speaking skills, explored their ecological footprints, driven their own project-based learning, and so much more. Their knowledge of their personal environmental impact has increased substantially. Supporting this project supports a fully student-led, student driven environmental goal that will help to foster future generations of environmentally conscious citizens.
