Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Books are my obsession. It breaks my heart to see a child who thinks of reading as a chore instead of a chance to go on a wild adventure. Help me inspire my students to travel to places way beyond their imaginations!
I teach in a high poverty school where most of the parents are immigrants with little to no education.
With little to no support at home, my kids need to have resources at school that most kids take for granted at home. My parents typically cannot even read the directions for homework, much less help them. My students are highly motivated and I need the resources to help them succeed.
Our school is currently almost at twice the capacity and so our school library has become slim picking when we get to go due to the sheer number of students. I am trying to build up my personal library so that my student's learning is not impacted due to something out of our control.
My Project
I am asking for books to complete many series of books that I have in my classroom library. This is my first year teaching fifth grade so I am trying to build up my library of upper grade novels. I have bought several of the first of a series with my own money to see how my students like them. There are several that have been passed around and the students are asking for the sequels.
