This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Curious, enthusiastic, and creative; my students are eager to immerse themselves in any kind of challenge. I have a diverse population which includes many varying socioeconomic levels, age levels, as well as developmental levels. They all come together daily to make music together which creates a sense of community that is so special to the students. The band program is starting to grow quickly and this is creating a sense of excitement and pride in the student as well as the community.
My Project
Many of my students are auditioning for the all-district honors band in a few months and the mallets they practice and audition with will affect how they perform and sound. My percussion students do not have high-quality mallets. Many of my students are using mallets that are taped or glued together.
To be highly competitive at district and state events my students need high-quality mallets.
Each instrument can require several different mallets of varying hardness and material to give the full spectrum of sound the instrument can create. While my students do build a collection of their own mallets, a complete set will run them hundreds of dollars. The mallets I am asking for will help to build a classroom set that all students will have access to.
