My Project

My students are resilient, caring.and they are always open to growing and learning as long as they have someone that they trust to help guide them along the way. Students will learn to cherish, respect, and understand the perspective and needs of our local elderly through classroom conversations and research. We have an elderly volunteer who comes to school each morning who goes from classroom to classroom to help teachers with various tasks and just about anything we ask of her. This volunteer we like to call Grandma is known by the students and to adults alike. Most adults know that she lives in low income housing for the elderly and they know of all of the challenges and hardships of the elderly who live there. Via conversations with grandma Val the students will gain knowledge and compassion about the financial hardships and physical hardships the elderly face.

Students will work to make care packages with basic necessities to help bring some help and much needed basic items to the elderly who could really use the extra help.

Students will make cheery cards to brighten the days of the seniors in the complex to add to the gift bags.

Our volunteer grandma will update us on the progress of our project and how the residents were able to benefit from the care bags. Students will share their progress and feelings with one another and each will write a paper about why it is important to show compassion and care for the elderly.
