This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In our classroom we have been learning about the difference between compassion and empathy. Empathy is characterized by an awareness of other people's emotional experiences and an attempt to feel those same emotions from their perspective.
Compassion is characterized by the desire to take action to help the other person.
We want to show compassion by taking action to help a rehabilitation and subacute local center. Students will write inspirational cards to elderly people at this facility.
We will make care packages with essentials such as diabetic socks, deodorants, lotions, personalized care items in already packed packages. We will make gift bags and deliver them to this facility. The goal is develop geriatric sensitivity.
