Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To foster empathy and compassion, I will encourage students to step into the shoes of individuals experiencing homelessness.

How will the specific items you’re requesting make a difference in their learning?

Toothbrush and Toothpaste: Providing toothbrushes and toothpaste not only supports oral hygiene but also raises awareness about the importance of dental health.

Soap and Shampoo: Hygiene items like soap and shampoo are essential for maintaining cleanliness and dignity.

Socks: Socks are often overlooked but crucial for foot health, especially for individuals spending long hours on their feet or exposed to harsh weather conditions.

Goals for this Project:

To cultivate empathy and compassion in students by raising awareness about the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. See the struggles that homeless face and show compassion for their situation.

To empower students to take action and make a positive difference in their community by assembling and distributing hygiene kits for homeless individuals. The successful assembly and distribution of homeless kits will be a tangible measure of students' engagement and commitment to the project. The number of kits completed and distributed will serve as a quantitative indicator of the project's impact. They will also reflect and have a discussion. Through open-ended questions and prompts, I will encourage students to articulate their thoughts, feelings, and insights about homelessness and the impact of their actions.

What Makes My Students Special:

My students are special because of their capacity for empathy, kindness, and compassion. They demonstrate a genuine desire to make a difference in the world and are eager to learn about issues affecting their community. Despite their young age, they possess a strong sense of social responsibility and a willingness to take action to address injustices and support those in need.
