My Project

The compassion project aims to create a positive and inclusive learning environment by introducing two weighted stuffed animals to the calming corner, a special area where students can manage their emotions.

These stuffed animals will help students feel secure and comfortable when they are feeling overwhelmed, promoting emotional regulation and connection with stories of caring for each other's feelings and managing emotions.

Additionally, the project includes five books for read-aloud sessions to encourage first-grade students to think, write, and share with their peers, fostering a community of learners who care for themselves, others, and the world around them. In the science component of the project, students will take on the role of marine biologists, investigating ocean conservation issues and promoting compassion for marine life.

Through these activities, students will learn about empathy, putting themselves in others' shoes, and understanding emotions while engaging in speaking, listening, and visualizing the world through each other's perspectives.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
