Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Have you ever felt lonely? Well, one of our school virtues is compassion; it means: being able to understand what others feel. Our goal is to put benches around our campus so that if you are feeling blue, lonely, or just need a rest, you can sit on a compassion bench and find others that may be feeling the same way, too! It's important for students to learn to identify when someone is feeling this way, and understand how he/she is feeling- we've all been there! Our compassion benches will give students a place to go when you need a friend or when you want to be a caring friend. If one see a friend sitting on a compassion bench, he/she will know that person might need a friend to talk to or just need someone to sit with them! Our students will learn to show compassion when someone is sad, lonely, or blue. Seeing friends on our compassion benches will allow students to work together, by showing compassion, and also receiving compassion. At our next school assembly, we will model, demonstrate, and show students what compassion looks like, sounds like, feel like. We will “fishbowl” students modeling how one might show compassion! ❤️

Our school needs compassion benches to have a place when they're blue, to find a place to rest, and to find a place to help a friend.

Our school climate will change when we all learn to take care of each other! We will be able to see students sitting, talking, and helping each other out! Who better to understand your problems than your very own peers? Success will be measured when we see students showing compassion towards one another, see students finding new friends, and see students enjoying our compassion benches.
