Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are kindergarteners at a STEAM school. We are encouraging them in every way to become future scientist, technologist, engineers, artist, and mathematicians. In order for our students to become more successful, I am asking for help in obtaining materials that will benefit their academic success. Our school is not only a STEAM (science, engineering, arts, math, and technology) school, but we are also a Title I school in southern Arizona. 99% of our students are on a free lunch, more than 1/2 of the students are English Language Learners (ELL) including refugees from Africa, Asia, Mexico, and the Middle East. Most students are in low-income housing, living in neighborhood apartments and trailer parks. Most parents do not have the funds to make sure students have the necessary materials to introduce and enrich their educational needs at home, as well as, most of the time we are their introduction to education. That being said, most students are eager to come to school to learn.
My Project
My students need a carpet to sit on for many uses including some of the following: community time, calendar time, music lessons, literacy (comprehension and reading fluency), and phonics and sight word practice.
We are a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and Title I school.
Part of our carpet time includes not only music and literacy practice, but the use of technology to enhance my kindergarten students abilities in phonics, sight words, music, science, and informational texts (such as artist and writers). My loving students could really use a place to sit on, that is comfortable and engaging at the same time.
