My Project

The spring semester of the 2nd grade EL curriculum focuses specifically on plants, pollination, and the forces responsible for pollination. To deepen the students' understanding of the plant life cycle and how humans affect plants growing, the 2nd grade teaching team decided that we will combine our EL, Science, and Social Studies curriculum. What better way could we teach plants for the next 5 months without it being monotonous and repetitive?

Each class will be responsible for planting and cultivating 3 plants.

Once those plants are in full bloom, we will release the pollinators that we raise and give the plants/produce to surrounding neighborhoods. Our students have become so accustomed to virtual learning that they miss out on life-changing experiences. Rather than tour a virtual garden, our students will grow their own garden, then use the products to build engagement and solidarity with the surrounding community.
