This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a 3rd grade teacher at a Title 1 elementary school in East Oakland, CA and I am currently pursuing my teaching credential.

Our school has students that come from a wide variety of backgrounds: students from low income households, English Language Learners, and refugees.

My class is made up of many diverse cultures.

This rug will serve as a place of community and belonging.

Although my students have challenges that they face daily, they arrive prepared and ready to learn.

My Project

My third graders need a special place to sit when we gather for our meetings and mini lessons on the floor. It is important for students to have space at their desks, but also while on the carpet.

This rug will allow students to have their personal space, which leads to more focused and engaged learning.

This rug will help decrease distractions as each student will have their own personal space respected.

Upon creating this project, I told my students I was reaching out to Donor's Choose so we can have a classroom rug. My students were so overjoyed and jumped with excitement!
