Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first year teacher working on the east side of Tulsa, OK. I will be teaching Pre-K to twenty amazing students. A large majority of my students will identify as Latinx and will come from low income backgrounds.
As we begin to build our classroom culture together, I want to ensure that we emphasize community.
I want to create a classroom environment that is driven by love and learning. Throughout the year, we will focus on building our knowledge, our social emotional skills, and our practical life skills.
My Project
In Pre-K, a classroom rug is essential for learning. This classroom rug will house us during community circle, centers, and our group instruction time. We will do our daily read aloud in this space, in addition to our provocations for the day. During these times, I will build strong relationships with my students, and them with each other.
Our classroom rug will help us to build community - It allow will us to come together in one space, that is clearly defined for children.
It will help us talk about how to love ourselves, love our neighbors, and how to love our community.
