My Students

We are a classroom community of first graders (six and seven year olds) who love to create, build, play, move, and learn. We love to try new things together, and we do our best to hold each other up each day. I understand that my students need more than what our school budget accounts for, and will do everything I can to give my students all of the opportunities they deserve!

I teach at an alternative public school in south Seattle where I support 27 first graders in my classroom as they learn through art, environmental science, and hands-on projects!

My students are energetic, thoughtful, and empathetic learners who deserve a classroom that supports them as they reach for the stars.

My Project

My first graders rarely get the opportunity to engage in hands-on science activities due to a lack of resources and budget at our school. This vermi-composting kit, along with red wiggler worms I will purchase at a local garden shop, will give my students an exciting year-long project through which they can observe a group of worms as they live, grow, and compost our snack and paper scraps (which we do make a lot of!).

My first graders, for years to come, will be proud to care for our worm family and donate the compost they create to our school garden, which provides fresh and healthy foods for all students at our school.

We can't wait to get our hands on this exciting project that combines our love for environmental science and community service!
