My Project

At SFES we proudly have students from 16 different countries and speak 11 different languages. We are enrolling and happily serving an increased number of these families. These mobile translating devices will allow not only me but the front office staff and the nurse to effectively communicate with our newcomers and their parents and guardians.

As a school social worker, I work with many students and their families.

I help them navigate the enrollment process and getting acclimated to our school system as well as common day to day issues that come from being a student in school. Right now we rely heavily on our bilingual staff members to do this. These devices will help us assist parents and students without having to pull bilingual staff members who are already doing important work with students. The devices will assist us in building relationships with students and parents first hand, without having them talk through a third party. As a social worker, this relationship building is the most important part of my job. I can only help when families feel comfortable confiding in me. In addition to the day to day needs, these devices will create a situation where I can have private conversations when students and parents want to disclose personal matters.
