Communication for All at the ECC!

My Students

My students are between the ages of two and three and have many different disabilities and needs, such as autism, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, blindness, and emotional and physical challenges. I also have a few typically developing students that serve as peer models for language and socialization.

My students come from culturally diverse families, and many have socioeconomic challenges as well.

My school is a Title I school and we have a large population of children with special needs and English Language Learners.

My Project

My school graciously received 10 ipads, from Donors Choose supporters, to be used as communication devices for our learners who have limited language and are nonverbal. Now that we have the ipads, we are in need of Communication Apps to make them functional communication systems.

We have seven Early Childhood Special Education classrooms and on average 1-2 students require high tech augmentative and alternative communication in each room.

These devices are often expensive and difficult to get. We want to be able to provide these devices for our children and families to use while in our care and at home.
