Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The art of storytelling is one that can transform lives. Through a great poem or story we are transported to a new and exciting world.
We are a 3rd grade classroom in an urban setting just outside of Los Angeles.
100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. My students come to school with a hunger for knowledge and a quest to enrich their lives and the lives of their family members. My students deal with disadvantages on a daily basis. It is my hope to help them forget about that when they are within the walls of my classroom.
My Project
In order to succeed with the new Common Core State Standards we need to delve into a study of poetry and storytelling. My classroom resources are limited in this area. We need common core exemplar texts to study in order to become better readers and storytellers. My students can perform spoken word, create art pieces, and write poetry using these resources as models.
My students will be better, well rounded students with this exposure to poetry and storytelling.
Who knows the next great American poet or novelist may be using these books and sitting in my classroom. Wouldn't it be amazing to help each child reach their fullest potential?
