My students need counting chips to notate music, chromatic boomwhackers so we can make music in different keys, and a bongo set to create texture in rhythm lessons.

People who make music together cannot be enemies, at least not while the music lasts. -Paul Hindemith, Shapiro, 1978. My students are realizing that each person is an important part of the music-making process. While making music, they are much happier and free to create.
My students attend an elementary school in Indiana in an urban setting.
Many have overcome tough obstacles at a young age. When listening to and making music, they are no longer concerned about the challenges they face. They love playing rhythms, and are often tapping rhythms on anything they can touch. They also enjoy listening to rap music and R&B, but are intrigued by world music and the many diverse styles of music that they hear in my classroom.
My students will be able to notate music on staff paper with the bingo chips that I requested. They will be able to play music note games" and have their own game board. This will help to make them excited to write and compose their own music! The boomwhacker tubes that I requested will help my students perform in an ensemble, where each student has an active part in the music-making process. By using these music tubes, the students will learn to create their own musical form. The bongo drums will get them excited about creating and performing rhythms. They will read music and play it on the drums, as well as improvise their own polyrhythms with classmates.
These items will help to make my classroom into more of an interactive, hands-on, learning experience for my students.
They will have better tools to provide them with a well rounded, holistic approach to music education. These new items will excite my students, and make them eager to create music together.
