Comics R Us! Students Find a MARVELous Way to Enjoy Reading!

My students need these 15 comic book compendiums for our library to inspire our young readers to do just that: READ!

My Students

I hope to continue to build a huge Comic Book Library with my goal of one day having everyone in our Middle School school exposed to them. Comic book compendiums (which offer many issues of a comic book in a consecutive run) are a great way to get kids into reading!

Many of my students are reluctant readers and readers that can only read for short bursts of time.

They do not often get the chance to relive the ORIGINAL CLASSICS of many colorful characters that they are now familiar with through the Big Screen. This is a tremendous chance to expose them exciting stories with intriguing characters, plots, and tremendous artwork! These books fit perfectly with: -Visual readers and learners -Picture Book lovers -Lovers of great short stories and awesome pictures combined!

My Project

These books will change students' views of reading by showing them characters they can - in a way - relate to. Sure, they're super heroes but they have EVERYDAY PROBLEMS. For example, poor ol' Peter Parker (Spiderman) has more problems dealing with real/everyday life than he does dealing with super villians like Doctor Octopus and his plethora of arms! Plus, he has homework assignments due and works a part-time job to help make ends meet! Students will learn the elements/parts of a story so crucial to ANY STORY that students should be cognizant of when they read (like inference, character analysis, plotting, and author’s purpose). Yes! They CAN be taught with comics. The pictures add GREATLY to the story's understanding, as well.

When children read comics, they don’t look at it as a “chore” but are excited to be reading them.

Wow! Imagine that! Thank you so much for considering my “Comics R Us” proposal. Excelsior!
