My Project

Reading is fundamental. All educators know this. However, getting students to understand this and engage in the reading process has been increasingly difficult. Technology can be wonderful but it has made reading difficult for students because of the distractions associated with technology.

Learning vocabulary in the context to which it applies is the key to learning science.

Many of our students come to us with vocabulary deficiencies. The purpose of this project is to add hard copy books to our biology curriculum to help increase student biology fluency. Anatomy is also a a difficult topic to master because it's so vocabulary dense. The anatomy books will be a fun way to introduce topics to students.

There is a virtually unlimited number of ways these books can be used in our classrooms. We can read the books as a whole class. Students can read excerpts and focus on defining new vocabulary words. Students can read and create graphic organizers of the facts they learn. The list of ideas goes on and will be determined by the abilities of the students in our classes.
