Help me give my students great flexible seating options for our classroom so all students can learn comfortably in a space that helps them learn their best.
I teach 5th graders in a rural school district where students feel safe to express their strengths, harness their passions, and seek help with their difficulties. With around 21, 10 and 11 year olds in my classroom every year, students of different backgrounds, family life, learning styles, and abilities are all merged into a classroom where they feel loved and special every day.
My students are creative and full of questions!
They absolutely love hands-on, active, engaging projects and challenges that allow them to think outside the box to find solutions! They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow academically.
My students love to move around the room as they are exploring and learning. They like to have room to wiggle and move.
My Project
It is extremely difficult for some students to sit in a traditional desk and chair setting for an extended length of time while learning. As a teacher, I am constantly moving throughout the day, so to expect students to sit still for an hour, half hour, even 10 minutes can prove detrimental to student learning.
Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
I have noticed amazing differences in students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. I am looking to add more flexible seating to my classroom by adding seat cushions and yoga ball seating.
This allows for students to remain seated while giving them the freedom to rock, wiggle, and wobble in a seat that is designed specifically for that purpose! Help make my classroom a space where all students feel safe and comfortable to learn the way they will find the best success!
