My students need an engaging environment to want to learn to read. Having comfortable seating makes reading at school like reading on your couch at home. Help a child fall in love with a good book. We need soft seats.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My 1st grade class is comprised of 23 students. They are a diverse group of students with various academic and social needs. For example, I have a few students who receive speech, academic intervention services, live in shelters, or go to after school programs because their parents can't help them with homework.
As their teacher, I want my students to enjoy learning and strive to be anything they want to be.
These 5-6 year olds are eager to soak up learning. They have the, "I think I can attitude." Do you remember the book, The Little Engine that Could? I'd love for my class to say, "I knew I could," at the end of the year.
My Project
Where do you like reading? A comfy chair? On the couch? My students love spreading their books on top of their desks. They lie on the carpet while reading their books. They'll even sit in a corner and fade away into a good book.
My 23 first graders need space to read.
This project would allow student to sit in comfort on the floor and spread out across the room to focus and read their books. They can read independently or sit with a buddy and talk about their favorite books. Help create a comfy seating area for my class.
