Hello! I am a first grade teacher at the Amalia Castro Elementary School (P.S.142). My school is a Title 1 elementary public school in the Lower East Side. Our school population is comprised of a variety of nationalities with most families in the Hispanic, African-American, and Asian cultures. We have programs to teach students who are English-language learners and provide services for speech, physical and occupational therapy. My 5 and 6 year olds are amazing! They're full of energy and are eager to learn. These students have a big job ahead of them. They can't wait to read the books in our class library, write some amazing stories, and build their math skills. But they need your help. This year we are happy to be part of a literacy program to help them learn to read. However, we don't have enough computers in our classroom. With your help, you can help my class become AWESOME readers!
