Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am teaching first grade this year and my first grade classroom is made up of wonderful, talented students.
Many of my students are from bilingual households and share their culture with us every day in the classroom.
All my students receive free breakfast and lunch due to their socioeconomic status.
My students' needs are very diverse and I would like to reach them in any way possible. I believe that giving them time in a daily listening center will help to increase their reading and listening skills.
Research shows that whether you are low-income or not, mindset is a bigger predictor of success than academic skills, and how students gain great academic skills and persevere in the face of challenges.
My Project
I would like to redo the library area in my classroom. I have moved to first grade this year and I would like my reading nook to be a cozy learning area. New soft seats and a new comfy carpet will help to give my students a cozy area to read.
The skills my students need to obtain in reading are very important.
They will be learning reading skills in first grade that will carry them throughout the rest of their lives. I want to provide a comfortable area for my students to learn their reading skills and give them a joy for reading and learning.
