My students are predominately 10th grade English Language Learners (ELLs) with a passion for learning and life. Many have overcome extreme adversity this year, especially with the Harvey flooding, They are low-socioeconomic and our school is a Title 1 campus.
Additionally, I'm inspired by my Limited English Proficient (LEP) students' abilities to continually outperform others without language barriers.
They are dedicated learners with endless potential with which they will contribute to the world. I can help take them to the next level with your help.
My Project
My students will benefit from a comfortable, quite place to enjoy their favorite books. Many of my students are reluctant readers and having flexible seating options such as a carpet zone with bean bag chairs will entice them to get comfortable and read.
Flexible seating options are important because when kids are comfortable it makes learning fun!
Students reading more will develop their fluency, comprehension, and word acquisition skills needed to not only to develop literacy, but their English proficiency as well. English proficiency is a requirement for High School graduation as well as for college readiness. I know the Comfy Reading Area will help students engage in good books and encourage them to read. I have the skills needed to help them develop their reading skills, but need your help creating the reading area with bean bag chairs and a soft carpet. I hope you will partner with me as we make room 2425 the place kids look forward to each day. Together we can make reading fun, comfortable, and stress free.
