This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember how hard it was to sit still and read as a child? Help me inspire my energetic students to relax and read!
My students come from a low-income, high-crime neighborhood in New York City.
Despite the challenges that many of them face at home, they arrive every day at school ready and eager to learn and play. They are funny, curious, kind, and full of personality. I have high hopes for the futures of these bright, hardworking children and I work passionately to serve the needs of each and every one of them.
My Project
I am requesting a visually-pleasing and comfy blue and white rug to create a welcoming library. Students will be able to stretch out and read on the rug and be excited to spend time in our beautiful library.
I am also requesting two comfy chairs for students to sit on and read with each other.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to read with their families at home.
For them, the act of reading does not feel familiar and it is difficult for them to adjust to sitting still and practicing. It is incredibly important not only that my students are reading every day, but that they learn to enjoy the act of reading. I'm hoping that this comfy library will inspire them to curl up with a good book!
