Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students don't have the luxury of traveling and building background knowledge through experience. We are a classroom made up of students from around the world. From Ethiopia, to Mexico, to Puerto Rico, to the Philippines, to right here in our own city. We are a busy classroom full of eager learners. We are a melting pot of cultures, learning and growing from each other. My students support, and understand one another and the struggles they each face.
We are a Title I school in an inner city which means we have a low socioeconomic population.
Many are new to this country, experiencing a classroom for the first time. The two biggest challenges my students face are lack of technology and lack of experience. There is nothing tying them to the things they learn.
My Project
Being seated in a chair all day requires a lot of focus from our little ones! That is why we offer seating choices that will help them stay focused on their learning tasks. Many students love to sit on the ground and read. They like being able to sit on their knees or with their legs "criss cross applesauce". Being able to wiggle on the floor frees up their minds to focus on their lessons.
Flexible seating offers students a lot of freedom, but is only helpful if it is comfortable enough for them to not be distracted by the hardness of the floor!
These floor cushions will allow students to be on the floor where they like to be and yet be comfortable enough to stay focused on their learning.
